I am having difficulty transferring miniDV tape to my IMac. I am using a FireWire 400 cable adapted to Thunderbolt, but I find that IMovie will not recognize the camcorder. I have been successful with my previous computer ( 2008 MacPro) Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After reading your post, it sounds like iMovie is not recognizing your camera. It sounds like the camera is able to be recognized by another computer.
This article should be able to help iMovie recognize your camcorder.
